Melissa Trevathan, M.R.E. has been a teacher, retreat leader, head of spiritual life at Brentwood Academy, and is founder and executive director of Daystar Counseling Ministries, which began in 1985. A graduate of Southwestern Baptist Seminary, Melissa has taught graduate courses in counseling adolescents and is a popular speaker for parents, teachers, and kids of all ages. She is the co-author of the Lifeway video parenting curriculum called Raising Boys and Girls, as well as seven books on parenting.
Sissy Goff, M.Ed., LPC-MHSP has worked as the director of child and adolescent counseling at Daystar Counseling Ministries in Nashville since 1993, with a Master’s degree from Vanderbilt University. A sought-after speaker for parenting and teacher training events such as dotMOM, Lifeway Kids Conference, and Heart of the Child, Sissy has spoken to thousands of parents, teachers, and girls across the country. Sissy is co-author with Melissa Trevathan of several books and the Lifeway video parenting curriculum called Raising Boys and Girls. Sissy is also a frequent guest and contributor to media shows and publications such as Moody Midday Connection, The Chat with Priscilla Shirer, as well as Today’s Christian Woman and Living with Teenagers magazines. David Thomas, L.M.S.W. is the director of counseling for men and boys at Daystar Counseling in Nashville, and the co-author of six books, including the best-selling Wild Things: The Art of Nurturing Boys. David is a frequent guest on national television and radio, a regular contributor to ParentLife magazine, and speaks across the country. His first video curriculum, Raising Boys and Girls: The Art of Understanding the Differences which he co-authored with his colleagues at Daystar is currently available, along with several other books he co-authored including Intentional Parenting and Becoming a Dad: A Spiritual, Emotional, and Practical Guide. Dave Verhaagen, PhD, ABPP Dave helps 16-29 year old young men excel in their lives and overcome emotional, behavioral, academic, or substance-related issues. He equips young men who have struggled in school to develop skills and make plans to be successful in college. He helps those who desire to develop a greater sense of identity, purpose, confidence, and direction. He also works with top performers, including professional and collegiate athletes, entertainers, and artists.

Lauren King, PsyD helps girls and young women from ages 5 to 30 overcome difficulties such as eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. She takes a positive, optimistic approach and builds on her clients’ strengths to help them feel confident and meet their goals. She enjoys integrating faith conversations and other healthy aspects of her clients’ lives into therapy whenever appropriate. Lauren also provides thorough, individualized psychoeducational assessments that provide a clear profile of the students’ strengths and weaknesses with strong recommendations that can lead to academic success.

James Goodlad, Phd specializes in testing for children ranging from 3 to 18 years, including the evaluation of cognitive and intellectual abilities (IQ), academic achievement testing and learning differences, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and disruptive behavior disorders. James is also trained to provide empirically-supported evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) using “gold standard” measures. In addition to assessment James also enjoys helping children build skills and self-efficacy in behavior management, social skills, and social problem-solving.

Warren Bezuidenhout, Phd is the 8th grade chair at Brentwood Academy and director of instructional technology. He also teaches history and helps coach soccer. "Dr. B," as he is known around campus, has led technology seminars for parents over the past 18 years of his tenure at Brentwood Academy. As technology has evolved, Dr. B has kept up with current trends and assisted parents in learning how to navigate the murky waters of smart phones, social media, and the Internet.
