Congratulations to Brentwood Academy alumnus Brandan Wright, class of 2006, who recently signed a three-year contract with the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies. We are looking forward to having Brandan "home."
It’s as close as Brandan Wright can get to playing at home in the NBA.
The Brentwood Academy product signed with the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday, the first day of the NBA’s free agent signing period. The deal, for a reported three years and worth nearly $18 million, was revealed last week, when players were free to negotiate with teams.
Shortly after midnight (EDT), Wright posted a photo on his Twitter page of him signing the deal with the caption “Done deal. Honored to be the newest member of @memgrizz.”
Wright, the eighth overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, has had a hard time finding a professional home. In seven seasons, the 6-foot-10 power forward has been traded four times, including twice last season, and has played with five different franchises.
Wright finished last season with Phoenix, for which he averaged 7.0 points and 4.9 rebounds in 40 games (seven starts). He has played 360 career games and has averaged 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds.
In 2013-14 with Dallas, Wright led the NBA in field goal percentage at 67.7 percent. He is one of two players in NBA history with more than 1,000 field goals to shoot better than 60 percent from the field. His career percentage is 60.6.
Wright was the first three-time TSSAA Mr. Basketball (he won the Division II award in 2004, 2005 and 2006) and a four-time state tournament MVP while at Brentwood Academy, which won four state titles while he was there.
Following his BA career, he played one season at North Carolina.
