BA wrestler sets state consecutive wins record

BA's record-setting Amos Mason is shown in action at the Independence tournament recently.

Amos Mason, Brentwood Academy's two-time Division II state wrestling champion, set a new state record for consecutive wins on Saturday.

Mason pinned Hunter Ingham of Mt. Juliet in 32 seconds in the Father Ryan Invitational semifinals to notch his 116th straight win and break the record. Mason (174-12) was scheduled to wrestle in the 220 finals this evening to extend his new mark.

Ryan's Michael Hooker held the previous record of 115 matches, set last year.

Mason also was a standout football player at Brentwood Academy and is mulling scholarship offers in both sports.

BA's Justin Becci was runner-up at Ryan in the 106-pound weight class.
